![]() Marigold is a very commonly used flower in India and hence the analogy is quite relatable. The various family members come together to form a complimentary whole- the sasural. marigold flower, which is not one flower but many flowers in one. Hence arises the analogy- the husband’s home is like a gendaa phool i.e. This includes the husband’s parents and siblings and many more extended family members. It is customary in India for sons to continue living with their parents even after getting married and so the newly wed bride has to live with not just her husband but a whole bunch of people. When a girl gets married, she goes to live with her husband and thats what sasural is. Now there is absolutely no word in English for it! The best that can be managed in English is ‘husband’s home’. ![]() This adorable little song from Delhi 6 talks about a concept which is very Indian – sasural.
